  Services / Carbon Monoxide Alarms

To keep them in a safe condition, all gas appliances should be regularly checked and maintained by a competent person who is Gas Safe registered. Although not a substitute for having your appliances serviced and checked regularly, additional protection can be obtained by the installation of carbon monoxide alarms, especially where open-flued or flueless gas appliances are installed.

In England and Wales, the Building Regulations require a carbon monoxide alarm to be fitted when a new solid fuel (wood or coal burning) appliance is installed. It is not currently mandatory for gas appliances but it is, however, strongly recommended as a second line of defence against carbon monoxide poisoning.

It is advisable to fit a carbon monoxide alarm in every room containing a gas appliance. Smoke alarms are similar in appearance to carbon monoxide alarms, but they do not detect carbon monoxide.

As an optional extra to any installation, servicing or maintenance work I undertake, I can supply and install one or more BSI Kitemarked and CE marked battery operated carbon monoxide detectors to EN 50291, with a working life of at least 5 years, for £25.00 per alarm.
